He received his BBA, with a major in accounting, from MTSU while employed full-time with the Rutherford County Finance Office before going to work at Samsonite Furniture Company and then being recruited by the Nashville office of a national CPA firm. He eventually tired of the large CPA firm lifestyle and returned to Murfreesboro to serve as Vice-President of Finance for Old Time Pottery’s corporate office for several years. Then he decided to open a CPA practice in Murfreesboro and worked as a partner with small business owners. This is where he really found his niche. The close relationships and bonding that are afforded with small-businesses and individual clients are what he prefers over impersonal corporate office policies. The recession of 2008 caused several real estate clients to halt operations which affected the firm’s ability to retain its highest-paid employees, so he sold his interest to his partner in 2009 and began freelance business consulting with clients such as Serv-Pro at its multi-million dollar operation in Gallatin, Tennessee.

In 2019 Mark decided to specialize in Tax Problem Resolution, so he sat for IRS testing and added the Enrolled Agent designation for good measure. This is the highest licensing of tax knowledge available from the IRS. In 2021 he went a step further and successfully completed a three-level course and earned the coveted NTPI Fellow designation from the National Association of Enrolled Agents, which recognizes superior knowledge in the field of tax problem representation.
